Edited photo for poster advert

This is the image we have chosen to use for our poster advert. We used Photoshop to edit this photograph. We enjoyed doing this task however we did have some issues cropping out the subjects hair. It took us a long time to erase the background from the hair an to make it look neat and natural, however it was worth it in the end. We am now going to make the magazine poster and add this image to it.

We then decided to use this image as it was stronger and spoke to the audience. it followed conventions because of the makeup and hair.

Production diary-Film day with Romano

Due to a different timetable from my team members, I was unable to attend today. However, Shaista and Ilianna and the male star Romano went out to film in Tesco and also in a cafe for our music video. The scenes filmed were Arabella reminiscing when her and her partner were still together. I would say that  the filming was successful as a lot of footage was filmed, even though there were some difficulties with the camera, filming still happened.

Photoshoot for ancillary tasks

Shaista and I did a photo-shoot of Ilianna. This photo-shoot was extremely fun and we all gathered our ideas and literally brought it to life! We have decided to use these photos for our ancillary tasks; the poster advert and our digipak. We believe that this was the best shoot that we have done so far!

CD cover

Shaista and Ilianna worked on the CD cover and decided  to keep it nice and simple as they thought that it is more effective that way with just  the name on the artist and the album name and the logo which is just the stain of the lips. The colours chosen was a light pink and white, the reason we have done this is because we want the artist Arabella to appear delicate and also innocent.

First edit Digipak

Here is the first edit of our digipak. After receiving constructive feedback, we realised there were many faults with our digipak, for example, our spine measurements were incorrect, the spine is not supposed to be that long. Also we thought that our photos looked boring and that we needed to add more photos to make it a lot more interesting and to give it a pop feel.

First edit of poster advert

Whilst working alongside Shaista to create a poster advert, this was our first trial. After completing this first poster, we asked our pairs amongst us to give us feedback and tell us what they think that we can improve on. After receiving feedback, it was brought to our attention that this poster did not follow the conventions of a Pop artist but instead looked more like an RNB poster, it looks very dark and dull and a Pop advert would be vibrant and exciting. After coming to this conclusion we decided to re-edit the poster.

CD images-Front cover photo

Above is the unedited photo of Ilianna that will be the front cover to our CD.

Above is the edited version to the first photo. To do this I used the software Adobe Photoshop.

First day off filming

Due to different lesson schedules, I was unable to attend this shoot which was the first attempt of shooting our video. Whilst filming Ilianna, Shaista mentioned that it ran smoothly because Ilianna had managed to learn al the lyrics to the song. After spending hours of filming, it came to the surprise of the girls that the quality of the music video was not up to the standard that we had imagined, this meant that we would have to film again. This time round we decided to use my Canon DSLR camera.

Magazine advert analysis

Whilst looking at some advertisement posters for our music video, we have come across this Britney Spears poster which caught the attention of our group. We absolutely loved it and will be taking inspiration from it. Personally, I like the different font styles, it adds a POP feel to the magazine which is what will influence our group when designing our own magazine. Furthermore, the way that Britney is posed also adds to the POP effect, she looks very innocent and girly, which is the ambience that we would like to give off to our audience.

Storyboard draft

Above is a draft storyboard for our music video. It includes the concept of our music video and the various locations which we will be filming in.

1st Photoshoot

My team and I planned to do a photo-shoot for our digipack on monday, however it did not go as planned. Romano who no longer attends the academy was unable to enter the school building during school hours. We thought that as he was a student from last year's sixth form, he would have been allowed on school premisses. This issue was resolved by going outside and filming Romano's dancing skills and also take several  photographs of him for our character profile. Unfortunately I was not allowed out the academy that day due to study support, as a result, Shaista and Ilianna had to do this task on their own. In conclusion, we are now aware that a backup plan is always necessary as things may not always go as planned. If in future we need Romano in school, we will get permission ahead to make sure that we have the go ahead.

Potential font and name ideas

Above is a potential name that my team and I have chosen to name the artist for our music video. We have picked this name because it sounds like the name of a pop artist, however, it is not considered as mediocre because its not similar to any other pop artist that is already existing. Due to our target market being teenage girls, I have chosen girly fonts.

Possible locations for music video

The photos above are all locations of where filming will be done indoors. The first photo is our school canteen, we chose this location as we wanted to do a dance scene there, using the chairs and table. The school hall will be used for a performance and the last photo, is an underground hallway where fillers will be filmed.

Updated concept for our music video

This is the updated version of our music concept, we have made a few changes.

5 most expensive music videos

1. Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, "Scream" (1995) — $7 million
The Mark Romanek directed video depicts the siblings escaping earth and its overwhelming media backlash via a spacecraft. With 13 pieces to its set, $175,000 in lighting, and a $65,000 computer-generated spaceship, the final bill skyrocketed to a whopping $7 million.

2. Britney Spears 2013 video for her hit single "Work B" cost $6.5 million due to her pretty epic choreography, location changes, an extensive wardrobe, and a guest appearance by a glimmering white Lamborghini.

3. Die Another Day being Madonna's priciest ever at $6.1 million.
Directed by Swedish directing team,Traktor, and inspired by action scenes in the James Bond film "Die Another Day," the singer's video incorporates intense special effects to portray realistic fighting between a good and evil Madonna, wounds included.

4.When it was released in 1989, the "Express Yourself" music video was the most expensive video ever at $5 million.

5.The hypnotizing, trance-like feel of Madonna's 1995 "Bedtime Story" music video didn't come cheap. Director Mark Romanek incorporated Egyptian imagery, rotating sunflowers, and references to surrealist paintings — all seeking to illustrate the song's main line, "Let's get unconscious."

Cheryl Cole - Fight For This Love

Having analysed this music video is a performance as throughout the video Cheryl appears to be dancing for a crowd. This refers to the Simon Firth theory. In 2006, it was rumoured that Cheryl Cole was going through a divorce, however it appears that Cheryl was determined to make her marriage work. The lyrics to this video seems to reflect this attitude. Cheryl's choice of dance moves resembles fighting moves with suggests that she is not only singing those lyrics but is also fighting emotionally and maybe even physically. In this music video the colour scheme red, black and white are often used as background, which is interesting as these colours all connote different meanings. Red is a very emotionally intense colour. It is associated with energy, strength, power, determination, war, passion and love. White means safety, purity and cleanliness, as opposed to black, white usually has a positive connotation. All of these emotions are linked with her lyrics as the chorus of the song repeats "Fight for this love".

Britney Spears-Don't Go Knockin' on My Door

As a group we came to the conclusion that Britney Spears- Don't go knocking on my door will be the song choice for our music video. We have chosen this song because it was very popular in its time, which meant that when watching our video to this song, the audience will be familiar with this song. Apart from this, the song is catchy and has a great beat.

Makeup Mood board for Ilianna Patel

When it comes to a video shoot, it is important to pan ahead the looks that the star will have when on set shooting. I always make sure to create a mood board with different looks that I will use on the day. On each photo that is included on the mood board there is an element that I will use. For example, I may use a similar lip colour but not the sam colour eyeshadows. The mood board gives me structure to the looks that will be created.

Grooming for the video shoot-Makeup

I am a make-up artist as well as beautician, therefore I will be doing the Star of our video's makeup (Ilianna Patel). When considering cost and preparation for our music video, the team suggested that I do makeup on the day that we shoot, I thought it was a great idea and agreed to do so.

Weekly production diary

This week I was taught about the Auteur theory which I learnt means Artist in French. The theorist that I was given was called Jonathan Glazer. My task was  to do a case study based on him and his theory, and whilst researching my given theorist I noticed that he had a theme that ran through his work.  I have also noticed that all of his work consists of disturbed characters.

Weekly production diary

This week my group were given two tasks, one was to do a lip sync video with another group member and the other was to create a casting profile of the person we are going to use for our music video. We decided to split the tasks in two, I was in charge of the casting profile. I enjoyed doing this task as it really made me consider the choice of our pop star and the conventions. I had to really focus and consider all aspects of the person that was chosen.
